As the Mornington Peninsula enters our second COVID-19 lockdown, it is more important than ever that we maintain the sense of connection our local community is famous for! This is where ‘Behind the Dreams’ comes in. We’ll be meeting our vibrant, local building and design industry professionals for 10 fun, quick-fire questions.
Meet Kate & Kris Butterworth – Owners of Kustom Cut Concrete Cutting & Drilling, in Mornington, Victoria.
Tell us about you! What brought you to the Mornington Peninsula?
Kris: We have lived on the Mornington Peninsula for 18 years. We bought land and built our first home together. We received the first home owners grant, which pushed us into looking for land. Kris’ family were already living on the Peninsula (Mt Martha) and my family always holidayed in Dromana at our family holiday house, so the Peninsula always held a special place in our hearts. We wanted our children to grow up on the Peninsula. We have twin boys that are 17 and our daughter is 14.
How do you like to live?
Kate: We love socialising with friends and family. We are a part of a very close family and love entertaining. We love the wineries and support local. We support our children’s interests and support them 100% with their sports or life decisions.
What’s the highlight of your working week?
Kris: We love setting different challenges throughout the week and achieving them big or small. We support each other in the different roles we play in the business. We make sure that our employees needs are met and give them all the support they require.
Describe your business in 20 words 😉, no more!
Kris: Kustom Cut is a family run business with 6 full-time employees. We have fully equipped vehicles on the road and cover Victoria wide. We are celebrating 10 years next month which is a great achievement. We work on Commercial and Domestic jobs. We use the latest equipment available on the market and also offer Hydraulic cutting which enable us to safely work indoors, fume-free whilst achieving the same excellent results.
What do you do on a Saturday?
Kate: We spend time together on the weekends. We either work around the house or lounge around and enjoy an egg and bacon breakfast together and even enjoy a spa. We would usually entertain or attend our daughters football match on a Sunday. We love taking our dogs for walks. Sometimes work needs to be done at the factory where we all head down there and do our bit to clean everything up ready for another working week.
What’s your favourite house or garden trend at the moment?
Kate: Low maintenance gardens catch our eye. We have just done up our garden using Corten on the front fence – very effective look! We have 2 beautiful well established palms in our front yard that are features of the garden. We like moderns homes or Hamptons style homes.
Your proudest business moment?
Kris: Our greatest business moment would be taking the risk to purchase the first Husqvarna Demolition Robotic Robot in Victoria. This was a great risk, but definitely worth it as we now have 2 Robots as the demand was and still is there.
What do you secretly wish clients knew?
Kate: I wish customers knew how lovely our staff are. We are very proud of all our staff and for how skilled they are in the Concrete Cutting industry. They all have great hearts, are all family guys and willing to help where possible. They show respect to us as their employers and present our business well onsite and in the community.
If you were a house… which one would you be? And why?
Kate: If I was a house, I would like to look at the sea and have the option to walk in and out of Mornington to restaurants, get a coffee, clothes shopping, meeting up with friends etc.
Thank you Kate & Kris for sharing a bit about yourself with our Building Dreams community!
