As the Mornington Peninsula continues its second lockdown, it is more important than ever that we maintain the sense of connection our local community is famous for! This is where 'Behind the Dreams' comes in. We'll be meeting our vibrant, local building and design industry professionals for 10 fun, quick-fire questions.
Brad Koch - Director of Portside Painting, Dromana, Victoria .
Tell us about you! What brought you to the Mornington Peninsula?
Brad: My life is my wife (Bianca) and daughter (Willow). We started off as a small business of just me, now we have 5 other employed. I have followed in my fathers footsteps of being a painter. I have always lived on the Mornington peninsula so I consider myself very lucky to have grown up here.
How do you like to live?
Brad: Just really spending a lot of time establishing our business. But ultimately I love getting away with the family, or having nice lunch breaks with my girls.
What’s the highlight of your working week?
Brad: Working on transforming peoples homes, having a good laugh with the crew and unwinding with the family.
Describe your business in 20 words 😉, no more!
Brad: We are passionate in making our clients vision come to life by producing a a quality finish that will last for years and years. We have a great team that all want to achieve the high standard of work that our clients deserve.
What do you do on a Saturday?
Brad: Currently we spend Saturdays working due to the heavy workload. My dream Saturday would be to go off exploring somewhere.
What’s your favourite house or garden trend at the moment?
Brad: I've always been a sucker for a modern farmhouse. Exterior weather boards, timber windows, v groove panel ceilings and really light and airy colours. Lately we have been doing a lot of dark colours on exteriors which has been growing on me.
Your proudest business moment?
Brad: It is currently this moment right now. Pre COVID I had just 2 other working for me, but our business has grown with demand and we now have 5 staff, and a steady workflow coming in (with a HUGE thanks to the building dreams group).
What do you secretly wish clients knew?
Brad: Just how much work that goes into the painting process! Most times we will spend a week prepping a house before we even paint which most times goes unnoticed. Our trade doesn't get the credit that it deserves and has the stigma around it that anyone can do it!
If you were a house… which one would you be? And why?
Brad: Oh god with how I feel after a long week it would be an old holiday shack! I look really rough from the outside but the bones are still good. I think that makes sense, haha ;-)
Thank you Brad for sharing a bit about yourself with our Building Dreams community!
