Behind the Dreams: Meet Debra Lee of imagemakers interior design.

As the Mornington Peninsula continues its second lockdown, it is more important than ever that we maintain the sense of connection our local community is famous for! This is where 'Behind the Dreams' comes in. We'll be meeting our vibrant, local building and design industry professionals for 10 fun, quick-fire questions.

Debra Lee - Director of imagemakers interior design, Mornington, Victoria.

Tell us about you! What brought you to the Mornington Peninsula?

Debra: After living in Noosa for a few years with our young family Melbourne called for our return so coming down to the Morington Peninsula gave us a similar lifestyle with a close knit community that we were searching to raise our family.

How do you like to live?

Debra: We love entertaining our family and friends sharing good food, wine and conversation. We also love spending time in our new home, walks on the beach with our dog and, and of course I love my job as an interior designer.

What’s the highlight of your working week?

Debra: Meeting new clients and listening to their "wish list" for their home, and then to presenting them with how we can achieve it. Having our own interior design & selection studio in Mornington is such a bonus for us and our clients, with so much product on hand!

Describe your business in 20 words 😉, no more!

Debra: imagemakers interior design is where design meets practicality - where art meets functionality. Where the house become your home, personalised to your lifestyle.

What do you do on a Saturday?

Debra: Occasionally I would need to work to meet dead lines of our projects and BC (Before Covid) we would enjoy getting ready to entertain but now its chilling out with some great music.

What’s your favourite house or garden trend at the moment?

Debra: Our trend has always been designing and building the connection between indoors and outdoors. This is a passion I share with my husband Steve, at imagemakers design and build.

Your proudest business moment?

Debra: There has been quite a few but the one that sticks in my head and my heart was the reaction of the residents of a retirement village entering their refurbished dining room that we had completed. There was a big opening ceremony, cutting of the ribbon and then their reaction when entering the Hampton style room with their eyes wide open, smiles galore and the sound of Oooh was just "priceless".... I love my job!

What do you secretly wish clients knew?

Debra: That interior design is not an instant product. A good design has to evolve, and be personalized to our clients needs and lifestyle. My job is to see that not just 1 aspect of a room but how it connects with the home and its residents.

If you were a house… which one would you be? And why?

Debra: This is a good question, we recently finshed building our new home which I designed every section of it to suit our lifestyle so it probably reflects a lot about myself.
