Smoko Interview with Ultimate Tiles Mornington

Our SMOKO interviews are back and better than ever…

Today we have Cassie Milana of Ultimate Tiles Mornington who shares the highs and lows of a family run small business.

Q1… Who’s the boss?

Cassie: My Dad is the boss! We are a family run business. Dad bought the business 17 years ago and we’ve been running it ever since.

Q2… What’s the best day on the job?

Cassie: Receiving our wonderful customers “after” photos and seeing our products laid. Which we love to post on our socials.

Q3… What’s the worst day on the job?

Cassie: Dealing with supply issues and stock delays. It’s been really difficult with covid, a lot of businesses have had to deal with it… the supply chains are really suffering. So get your tile choices in early if possible.

Q4… What have you learnt the hard way?

Cassie: I’ve learnt the hard way you need to rely on more people. It’s easy as a small business, to try and take on all of the workload. Wearing too many hats can be a huge issue.

Q5… What do you wish everyone could know?

Cassie: Buying tiles is a big decision and you need to allow time to get it right. Don’t expect to purchase tiles on your first visit. We encourage everyone to take samples home and look at them in the lighting that you are going to lay them. Just to double-check they are 100% the product you are going to love walking on for many years to come.

Tara Vandeligt: Thank you Cassie for sharing your local industry insights. We look forward to seeing more of you in the Building Dreams Facebook group!
